16 mos: words and babbles

I am a year out of touch with our blog! I will try to add dated posts from the past year...

So an update to what we have going on right now: Brie is walking fully. We're past "come on, Brie, you can walk!" and onto "Walk! Don't run! Walk!!"

She took her first few steps when she was 9 1/2 months. She was already cruising then, holding on to the crib rail or on to the side of the bed/couch to walk side ways. Come to think of it, she barely crawled.

Brie's younger relative, Kaidon, who is now 10 months old is crawling so much, it's amazing! It's a good thing Brie didn't crawl as much because we didn't have the floor space for it!

Brie is also talking! Some of the words she has on her vocabulary:

  1. Mummy (mommy)
  2. Daddy
  3. Kahga (karga; "lift" for getting picked up)
  4. Dede (dede; "milk")
  5. Manya-manya-manya (manyaman; "delicious")
  6. Ba (bath)
  7. Baa (bottle; yes, there's a difference)
  8. Latta (laptop)
  9. Yes *nod*
  10. Naah (no)
  11. Naw-muh (no more) and Na-na (wala na; which means the same thing)
  12. Daapaa (diaper)
  13. Baw-pee (ballpen)
  14. Bye-bye
  15. Byuuu ('love you)
  16. Baaawww (ball)
  17. Nana (banana)
  18. Memo (lemon)
  19. Buk (book)
  20. Pliiii (please)
  21. Teytey (thank you)
  22. Waya? (what's that?)
  23. Ska (star)
  24. Animal sounds that all kinda sound the same with different intonations and accents: moo, oink, meow, ow-ow, quack
She does this one thing while on her high chair... I think she's reenacting a conversation between the two of us but she plays both parts. She'll throw something down the floor and say "No no!" then pause and say "Pliii!" (please). I feel like she's telling me about the times I would tell her "No" when she wants to throw things on the floor. It's absolutely adorable.

One last thing for this post. Brie has gotten taller! I think it's time to start tracking her height... I just couldn't decide on how to do it. I want to track it on something that I can take with me when we move.

DIY: magnetic fishing game

I'm not even sure if Brie is ready for this game at 16 months but I know that she currently loves magnets. So instead of buying her a fishing toy, I decided to make a set out of whatever materials I already have. I used the following: foam sheets for the fish paper clips to make the fish magnetic a tiny magnet sewed into a cloth pouch ribbon for the fishing line a chopstick for the fishing pole glue to stick things with, scissors to cut things with, and finally a marker to draw the fish details and make them cute Cut out fish from foam sheets. Best to cut out one and then use that as a template for the rest. Then you put a paper clip on one fish and glue on another foam fish on top of that. Use a marker to draw the fish details.  I don't have step-by-step pictures for the "hook and line" that I made. It's very simple: get a tiny magnet, put it in a piece of cloth, sew it sealed, then tie a ribbon on that and onto a chopstick. That...

DIY Felt Dress Up Dolls Series: Snow White

Brie hasn't actually seen Snow White. Can you believe that? It's on the list. She knows Snow White because of her 5-Minute Princess Stories and because of her Disney Princess Duplo Lego Set. I sewed the puff sleeves but I highly recommend gluing them on like Cinderella's puff sleeves. I just wanted to see how it would turn out sewn. This is what Snow White looks like assembled. DIY Felt Dress Up Dolls Series: Ariel

Ariel's has been Brie's favorite "dress". She calls the bra "boobs". I love it. It's also the easiest to pair! How can you miss a fish tail? This was very straightforward. Bra. And tail. All I added was a bit of design on the top of the tail. This is what Ariel looks like assembled.
